Our goal is to reduce our environmental footprint by adopting more responsible practices across our operations. We focus on minimizing resource depletion, lowering toxicity impacts on people and ecosystems, and replacing harmful materials with sustainable alternatives. ETHICAL
MATERIAL SOURCING

By carefully selecting materials that support both quality and environmental responsibility, we prioritize sustainability at ModernForm Doors. Our cabinet doors are made using wood, vinyl, and paints, with a strong focus on eco-friendly sourcing. The wood panels we use are medium-density fibreboards (MDF), supplied by Laminex—a trusted partner committed to sustainable forestry practices. All MDF boards are certified under PEFC and the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS), ensuring compliance with both Australian and international standards. These certifications guarantee that the wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests where biodiversity is protected and replanting is practiced. Additionally, Laminex holds third-party certifications from Global GreenTag and complies with multiple ISO standards, reinforcing our commitment to ethical sourcing and long-term environmental sustainability.

By being conscious about responsible material use, we aim to balance durability, design, and environmental responsibility in how we make our cabinet doors. Once the wood panels are prepared, we apply a primer coat to help the final layer—either vinyl or paint—adhere properly. This step is key to ensuring the finish lasts, and we stand behind our work with a 7-year warranty on vinyl-wrapped doors and a 5-year warranty on painted ones.

Two-thirds of our cabinet fronts are finished with vinyl wraps. These are applied using machines that glue and wrap the vinyl efficiently, helping us reduce material waste. In total, we use over 28 kilometers of vinyl each year. The rest of our doors are painted, using a range of colors and finishes, then dried in controlled rooms to ensure consistency and durability. Wherever possible, we choose materials and processes that are lower-impact and responsibly sourced, so we can offer products that look great, last long, and are made with care.

METHODS

At ModernForm Doors, we combine skilled craftsmanship with efficient machinery to produce high-quality cabinet doors while reducing our environmental impact. Production starts with two precision sawing machines that cut doors from larger MDF panels. Each order is manually “nested,” meaning doors are strategically arranged on the panels to minimize material waste. Sanding machines then refine the edges, delivering consistency, speed, and accuracy with minimal excess.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to how we power our operations. Two rooftop solar installations—totaling 66kW—supply clean energy directly to our factory. Surplus energy generated on weekends is returned to the local grid, helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels and supporting a cleaner energy future for Western Australia. It’s all part of our effort to make better doors with a smaller footprint.

 Common waste materials include leftover paint, MDF and vinyl offcuts, sanding supplies, wrapping materials, and manufacturing errors. And at ModernForm Doors, we’re committed to reducing waste across our production process in a way that’s both ethical and environmentally responsible. While some of these are challenging to recycle—particularly MDF and vinyl due to processing costs—we’re actively working to improve how we manage and repurpose these materials to reduce our environmental footprint.

To address paint waste more sustainably, we’ve invested in a Formeco Unit—a distillation system that allows us to recycle and reuse solvents used in cleaning and degreasing. This process separates contaminants like resins, pigments, and oils from the original solvent without altering its properties, allowing it to be reused multiple times. It’s one of the many steps we’re taking to move toward cleaner production and smarter resource use.

We’re also exploring solutions for harder-to-recycle materials and consumables like brushes, sanding paper, and protective gear—ensuring that sustainability extends beyond our products and into every corner of our operations.

Our manufacturing processes are designed to maintain ethical working conditions so that we can prioritise the health and safety of both our team and our customers. With every ModernForm employee provided the proper protective equipment and a clean, well-ventilated workspace. Dust extraction systems are in place to ensure safe air quality throughout the facility.

We also choose safer materials—every MDF cabinet door we produce meets E0 standards for low formaldehyde emissions, helping protect our workers during production and ensuring our products are safe for use in homes. Ethical practices and employee wellbeing are essential parts of how we operate, every step of the way.
